IN THE DRIVER'S SEAT

JOEY CAVALIER, CSR B01, MINNEAPOLIS, MN

How long have you been a CSR with AmeriPride?

I have been a CSR since November 2012. So that means I'm coming up on four years.

What areas/cities do you cover?

My route is located in the southern part of the Twin Cities area. I spend most of my time in Shakopee, Lakeville and Prior Lake.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

There are so many aspects of my job that I enjoy, but if I had to pick one thing that I enjoy the most, it would have to be the relationships I have built with my customers. It is amazing how doing something as simple as delivering clean linens and uniforms can serve as a vehicle for genuine friendships. I have gotten to know my customers very well, and that is something I take a lot of pride in. My customers trust me and know they can count on my ability to take care of them. And when they trust me as their CSR, I can be confident that they will stay with AmeriPride for a long time.

What is your favorite customer story or interaction?

When I first took over my route, I inherited a customer that had a reputation of being surly and difficult to work with. Early on, when I would try to talk with him and build trust, he would be short and say very few words with little eye contact. Yet over time, this customer and I have really come to appreciate each other. He will randomly tell me that I do a great job as their CSR, that is, he trusts me. We even joke around and chat about our plans for the weekend.

On average, how many miles do you drive in a day?

I have around 11 to 15 stops a day. My route consists of many large accounts such as country clubs, restaurants and event centers. I end up driving about 100 to 115 miles per day, depending on the day.

Do you have any pet peeves related to your truck?

I am a Minnesota boy, born and raised, so you think I would be acclimated to our humid summers. If I had one pet peeve about my truck it would be the lack of air conditioning. But I can deal with it just fine through proper hydration and towels soaked in ice water on really hot days.

Do you have a system for organizing your truck?

My truck loader, Andy, does a phenomenal job of loading and organizing my truck. I load my truck once a week so I basically just try to mimic what he does. My truck is neatly separated by linen type – rugs are loaded by sequence and uniforms are in the same location every day so I never miss anything.

Since we’re in the business of laundering, do you iron your own clothes?

I am actually terrible at ironing my own clothes. What I try to do is get my wife to feel sorry for me and my inability to properly iron clothes. Sometimes she caves and irons them for me (she does a really nice job), and other times she makes me do it and laughs as she watches me struggle.

When you’re not in the truck, what are your favorite hobbies?

I am a husband and a father of two (soon to be three) so I love hanging out and spending time with my wife and kids. I play and collect many board/tabletop games. I am even a Dungeons & Dragons geek. I love to play sports, and I love to watch almost every sport. I am heavily into fantasy sports such as fantasy football, soccer and basketball. I love to cook and invent my own recipes. I love to spend time with my friends, and I am very active in my faith and church community.
